Avola Unveiled

Questo Progetto vuole raccontare un luogo: Avola, Sicilia. Lo vuole raccontare in fotografia, ma evitando l’impostazione documentaristica tipica del luogo geografico e civile. L’intento è quello di emozionare attraverso immagini che esprimano i sentimenti di chi lo ha scelto e continua a sceglierlo ogni giorno, anche contro i rimpianti che ogni tanto affiorano. Scene di vita di una comunità che si forma e vive attorno a luoghi di aggregazione, che si perpetua tramandando tradizioni e usi, che deve fare i conti con i resti di un passato, che serva da monito contro il pericolo dell’estinzione. Per questo il Progetto si sviluppa attorno ad arti e mestieri, scegliendone due ancora vivi e uno che si può solo immaginare e richiamare attraverso luoghi e letteratura.

This Project aims at telling the reality of a place: Avola, Sicily.

In the end, however, this is a Project about life choices, unquestionable, often unintellegible, made on hallucinated, distorted perspectives, even when presented as rational.

The aim is to stimulate emotions through images expressing the feelings of those who chose it and continue to choose it every day, against those regrets that daily spring up. Life scenes of a community that forms up and lives around aggregation places, that flourishes by traditions, that must reckon with the heritage of a past warning against the danger of the extinction. That's why the Proejct develops around arts and crafts, by choosing two being still alive and one that you can only imagine and recall through places and literature.

No judgement, there's neither any predefined good or bad, nor winking at the observer, but just the representation of a reality not enough appreciated to invest in its future.
